Learning Colour for Quilting — Live Online Workshop
Stop second-guessing your fabric choices and start choosing colour with confidence.
Have you ever fallen in love with several fabrics individually…
…but when you put them together, something just doesn’t feel right?
Maybe one colour seems to overpower everything else.
Maybe your quilt looks flatter than you imagined.
Or perhaps you know you need another fabric to pull everything together — but you have absolutely no idea what colour it should be.
You’re not alone.
Choosing beautiful fabric is one thing.
Knowing how to combine colour so your fabrics balance, contrast, complement each other and create the feeling you imagined is something completely different.
That’s exactly what we’ll explore together in Learning Colour for Quilting.
A practical colour workshop created especially for quilters
This live online Zoom workshop will help take some of the guesswork out of choosing fabrics by giving you a practical understanding of how colour actually works.
You’ll learn:
• How to use the colour wheel when choosing fabrics
• Primary, secondary and tertiary colours
• The difference between hues, tints, shades and tones
• How light, medium and dark fabrics affect your quilt
• Why some colours appear to come forward while others recede
• How to use neutrals and bridging colours
• Monochromatic, analogous, complementary and split-complementary colour schemes
• How colour dominance changes what your eye notices first
• How to create harmony and contrast
• How to add that little bit of “sparkle” that can bring a quilt to life
• How to step back and recognise when a fabric simply isn’t working
And perhaps most importantly…
Learn to trust your own eye
Colour theory isn’t about memorising a list of rigid rules or being told which colours you’re “allowed” to put together.
It’s about understanding why colour behaves the way it does.
Once you understand what you’re looking for, choosing fabrics becomes far less intimidating — and much more enjoyable.
Instead of asking:
“Does this go with that?”
you’ll begin to understand why it does… or why it doesn’t.
Choose Your Workshop Experience
We’re offering two ways to join us.
🎨 STANDARD — $47 AUD
Perfect if you want to build your understanding of colour and become more confident choosing fabrics for your own projects.
Your Standard ticket includes:
✓ Live Learning Colour for Quilting Workshop
Join us live via Zoom as we work through colour theory step by step and, most importantly, look at how these principles apply specifically to quilting and fabric selection.
✓ Take-Home Class Resources
You’ll receive useful reference material to keep after the workshop, so you can revisit what you’ve learned whenever you’re selecting fabrics for a future project.
✓ 14-Day Workshop Replay
Want to watch something again?
Missed a section while taking notes?
Your registration includes access to the workshop recording for 14 days after the live class, giving you plenty of time to revisit anything you’d like to see again.
Standard Ticket: $47 AUD
🧵 VIP — BRING YOUR FABRICS — $67 AUD
Want some help with your own fabrics too?
Upgrade to VIP and, after the main workshop, stay with us for our small-group Bring Your Fabrics Q&A.
VIP includes everything in the Standard ticket, PLUS:
✓ Live Bring Your Fabrics Q&A
This is where we take what you’ve just learned and apply it to your own quilting.
Bring along:
• Fabrics you love individually but can’t seem to make work together
• A quilt project where something feels “off”
• Several fabrics you’re trying to choose between
• A combination that feels flat or unbalanced
• A project where you know something is missing…but you’re not sure what
You’ll have the opportunity to show your fabrics during the live session and receive personalised guidance on what may be working, what might be missing and what you could try next.
Instead of leaving the workshop simply knowing more about colour theory, you’ll have the opportunity to start applying it to your own fabrics, your own stash and your own projects.
Only 8 VIP places are available
We’re deliberately keeping the VIP group very small so there’s time to actually look at attendees’ fabrics and give meaningful individual guidance.
Once those 8 VIP places are gone, they’re gone.
VIP Bring Your Fabrics Ticket: $67 AUD
Which ticket is right for you?
Choose STANDARD if:
You want to understand colour better, feel more confident choosing fabrics and have the resources and replay available afterwards to continue learning.
$47 AUD
Choose VIP if:
You’d also love the opportunity to show us your own fabrics and receive personalised guidance during the Bring Your Fabrics Q&A.
$67 AUD — only 8 available
This workshop is perfect for you if…
You regularly second-guess your colour choices.
You have beautiful fabrics in your stash but aren’t quite sure what to put with them.
You find choosing the final few fabrics for a quilt harder than choosing the first one.
You’d like to better understand contrast, value, harmony and colour relationships.
You sometimes know that something isn’t quite working…but you can’t put your finger on why.
Or you simply want to become a more confident and adventurous quilter when it comes to colour.
Whether you’re an experienced quilter or still building your confidence, you’re very welcome.
